Feb 24, 2018 National Day of Action for ALL Unions and March 3, 2018 CSEA Local 860 Workshop

Our New Year’s resolution:
Stand Strong together

This year, it’s important to keep our Never Quit conversations going so we can keep building our union. We can take the energy we used to defeat the constitutional convention to defeat the corporate special interest groups and the wealthy people who would like nothing more than to break the backs of unions so they can profit even more.   We can beat them if we continue to talk with those around us, and remind everyone why it’s so important to Never Quit on each other. We must be diligent, we must remain energized, and most of all, we must stay united together as one CSEA!

“This is not just a slap in the face to the working people Donald Trump pledged to lift up, it is a promise broken to anyone who hoped his presidency would be about raising wages, creating good jobs, and giving the forgotten man and woman a voice in their country. The ‘right-to-work’ law his administration has asked the highest court in the land to implement will drive wages down and fundamentally strip working people of the freedom to build power in numbers and negotiate a fair return on their work.   “For the Solicitor General’s Office to reverse positions under the Trump administration – when they have argued in support of the Abood precedent twice in the past four years –  underscores the fact that this case is a purely political attack on the freedoms of working people. ”

A New Threat to Unions in the US:
The next HUGE threat to Municipal Employees in unions across the USA is the “Janus versus AFSCME” Supreme Court legal case. When searching this please avoid right-wing conservative web sites who seek to weaken unions’ ability to deliver contracts with good wages, pensions, and benefits. Refer to real news sites. AFSCME has correct information:

Pop Quiz on the AFSCME Free College Benefit   Alaska AFSCME Local 52/ASEA member Dawn Duval recently shared her thoughts about AFSCME’s Free College Benefit and why she chose to pursue the program.  We all can pursue this also as we are also AFSCME members in CSEA.

 Regular Medical Check-Ups are Important

Because of our CSEA Collective Bargaining Agreement, we have health insurance for ourselves and family members.  It’s time to take charge of your health!  Schedule an appointment with your health care provider to discuss what screenings and exams you need and when you need them.  This link from the Centers for Disease Control has useful information on the value of annual doctor visits.  Don’t forget about Dental and Vision check-ups each year also!
