Dear Fellow Colleagues and Valued CSEA Unit 9200 Members,
We hope this message finds you well.
Here is this week’s update for members. Please read through and share with coworkers who may not have received it.
1) PAC Call to Action — Door Knocking for Kisha Skipper, Tomorrow – Saturday, October 17
Endorsements matter, but they do not win elections by themselves. Our endorsed candidates win when members show up: at the doors, in the districts, and in the conversations that move votes. October 17 is one of those days.
We will meet at 12 noon for a light lunch, then head into the 15th Legislative district in Yonkers to knock doors for our endorsed candidate, Kisha Skipper. This is the work that turns a recommendation into real support: neighbors talking to neighbors, and members standing behind the people who stand with us on the issues that affect our jobs, benefits, and communities.
An hour matters. Two hours matter. Three hours matter. Every door is a chance to explain why these candidates earned our backing and why that backing has to be matched with action.
We will meet at 12 Noon, at:
Tuck’d Away Bar & Grill 90 Yonkers Ave, Tuckahoe, NY 10707 (corner of Yonkers Ave and Scarsdale Road, a short walk from the Tuckahoe Metro-North station)
If you can volunteer an hour, two, or three on October 17, reply to this email or call 914-995-2152 to RSVP, so we can plan accordingly. Please tell us how long you can stay so we can plan routes and coverage.
Lunch will be ready. You bring the energy. See you there.
2) Social Security COLA Increase
The Social Security Administration has announced a 3.6% cost-of-living adjustment for beneficiaries, effective January 2027. On average, this is expected to raise monthly Social Security retirement benefits by about $75. Additional details on the 2027 changes are available on the SSA website.
For context, the annual U.S. inflation rate reached 3.7% for the 12-month period ending September 2026. Our contractual 3% increase therefore falls 0.6% short of the inflation rate, resulting in a modest decrease in purchasing power. This is a useful reminder that wage and benefit increases should ideally keep pace with—or exceed—inflation to protect members’ real earnings.
3) Stay Updated Contest
CSEA’s monthly Stay Updated Contest, launched last spring, continues to see strong participation. Members who update or verify their contact information through the website, the MyCSEA app, or a contact card are entered for a chance to win. Since March 2025, more than 122,584 members have taken part.
Twelve winners were randomly selected for September and will each receive a $25 gift card:
Karen Zeh – Local 552; Diana Kilmczak – Local 436; Jonathan Vincent – Local 105; Becky Humiston – Local 015; Brittney Johnson – Local 334; Wanda Jackson – Local 828; Ladacia Phillips – Local 815; Nicholas Rivera – Local 836; Kimberly Walsh – Local 848; Joshua Danforth – Local 508; Nikki Johnson – Local 100; Flor DeJesus – Local 690
Congratulations to all of the winners! Remaining entries will automatically carry over into the October drawing. Please continue encouraging members to keep their contact information current so we can stay connected.
4) Annual Meeting Registration Is Open!
Registration forms and this year’s menu are attached. Last year we capped attendance at 325 and still had to turn members away. This year the cap is 400 so more of you can join us. Seating is first come, first served until tickets sell out, so do not wait. Payment is due upon registration for everyone listed on the form.
A note from last year’s guests: do not miss the cocktail hour. It was outstanding, and this year promises to be just as memorable.
